Who is Lorelle R. Smith, anyway?

Well, thanks to the Internet, I now have to use my middle initial because I found out that there are at least 2 other Lorelle Smiths in the world. I believe one is in Florida and the other is in Australia.

When I tell people about the 2 others named Lorelle Smith, I get looks of disbelief. After all, the name “Lorelle” can’t be that common, can it? Oh, yes, indeedy, it turns out there are HUNDREDS of people with my first name. Maybe thousands.

The first thing I did when I bought my first home computer in May of 1996 … (No, not get on AOL!)… was to google my name. Of course, this was before Google existed but no one would say “I Alta Vista’d my name” so it’s a good thing Google came along!

I found over 100 instances of the name Lorelle. Some even have my name as a surname.

Nowadays googling would probably turn up thousands of Lorelles.

I just hope another Lorelle R. Smith doesn’t come along, or I’ll have to consider changing my name!
